Hydroseeding Cost
By ProMatcher Staff
The cost of hydroseeding (see the chart to the right) will increase or decrease based upon a number of factors. We have prepared a list of items that impact the price of hydroseeding:
Does it cost more than traditional seeding methods (machine or hand spreading). Hydroseeding is a bit more expensive than traditional seeding methods, however, it is up to 25% less expensive than planting new sod.
The type of seed you are using. The type of seed you use will impact the price of hydroseeding. Your geographic location will impact the type of seed you can use. There are 12 zones in the United States and multiple types of grass you can use. Each grass will have a different cost associated with it.
The size of the area you are planting will impact the square foot price. In general, the larger the area you are hydroseeding, the lower the price per square foot.
Residential vs. commercial projects. Other than taking into account the size of the project, there should not be much of a price difference between a residential and commercial hydroseeding project.
The density of the hydroseed mix will impact the cost. What we mean by “density” is the amount of material spread per square foot (or per acre). Higher density mixes cost more because they have more “material” including seed, hydro-mulch, fertilizers, and tackifers (bonding agents).
The amount of land/soil preparation required. Projects that require grading and that require the addition of new topsoil will be more expensive than projects that do not require much soil preparation.
When evaluating the range of hydroseeding costs (in the chart on the right), the lower end of the price range will be for projects over an acre with little ground preparation required. The higher end of the price range will be for smaller projects and projects that require ground preparation.
